Hi, I'm Gala!

Hi there,

I' m Gala – a musician, academic, and headshot photographer of nearly a decade.

My family and friends have always told me that I’m a social butterfly. I love people and have always been curious about people’s stories and journeys.

Taking portraits is my one true photography love. I enjoy the challenge of capturing who people are, which is not always as easy done as said – having your photo taken isn’t the most comfortable experience (in the beginning, anyway!)

Most of all, I have loved meeting and capturing people from all walks of life – people with different goals, hobbies, and experiences.

I hope to meet you soon, too!

A bit more about me

I grew up in a musical family and was lucky enough to have been raised in recording studios and at concerts. I am also a musician and songwriter (it’s hard not to when you’re surrounded by it!) and play guitar, bass, piano, and I love to sing.

I was born and raised in New Zealand, but I am currently living in Glasgow, Scotland undertaking a PhD in Archaeology.

My photography journey started in 2013 when I sold my car and bought my first camera. Shortly after, I started working for a talent agency in Auckland as a registrations administrator, which meant that I quickly had to learn photography for talent, acting, and modelling headshots.

I am largely self taught – nearly a decade of capturing different people has been my teacher. I have since also branched out into business, family, and artist photography, bringing together my experience as a creative in the music industry and my love for photography.

I still remember my first newborn photoshoot back in 2015. I was so nervous – I wanted to capture that special moment so perfectly for the family. The results left me completely in awe of the power of photography, and I have found that sense of magic in every photoshoot since.
